SoundCloud offers musicians a more affordable option

SoundCloud announced on Tuesday the introduction of a new, more affordable paid plan called "Artist," alongside a rebranding of its existing Next Pro plan to "Artist Pro."

The new basic plan is priced at $39 per year and comes with certain limitations on features like track amplification, distribution, monetization, and AI mastering. Artists subscribing to this plan can upload up to 3 hours of content across any number of tracks — the same limit as the free plan.

With the Artist plan, artists have the opportunity to amplify new tracks to reach over 100 listeners. SoundCloud also facilitates track distribution and monetization to platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and TikTok, allowing artists to earn 100% of royalties from their SoundCloud plays and keep earnings from other platforms. This is available for up to two tracks per month.

Users can also replace three tracks per month without losing their stats, plays, likes, or comments. Additionally, artists receive a credit each month for mastering one track using SoundCloud’s tools.

SoundCloud stated that the new basic plan will now be available globally following a pilot in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

For artists seeking higher limits, including unlimited track uploads, amplification, monetization, and track replacements, the $99 per year Artist Pro plan is available. The Pro plan includes three AI mastering credits per month and community management tools.

Earlier this year, SoundCloud also launched its own merch store, allowing artists to create and sell custom designs.

“At SoundCloud, we believe great music can come from anywhere, and it shouldn’t be constrained by cost or complexity. That’s why we created the Artist plan — to provide emerging musicians with professional-level tools and distribution at an affordable price,” said SoundCloud CEO Eliah Seton in a statement.
