Instagram Threads offers the ability to "Use Media" to share images and videos again

Threads is rolling out a new feature that simplifies the process of resharing photos and videos on its platform. Instead of quote posting and adding commentary to the original content, users will now have the option to select “Use Media.” This allows them to reshare a photo or video directly to a new post, where they can add their own text while still giving credit to the original poster.

The feature was announced on Wednesday by Instagram head Adam Mosseri via a post on Threads. He highlighted that this new approach would provide a quicker and more straightforward way for users to contribute their creative interpretations to popular images.

Threads’ account later confirmed that the original poster’s attribution will appear at the top left of the image. To access the “Use Media” option, users can either long-press on the media or tap the repost button, where it will appear as a new option in the pop-up window below “Repost” and “Quote.”

If you’re not seeing this feature yet, Mosseri indicated it’s being rolled out to the user base. While he didn’t describe it as a test, user feedback is encouraged.

However, not everyone has welcomed this update. Some creators responded to Mosseri’s post expressing concerns about turning off the feature, noting that not all creators want their content reshared in this way. These users are worried that others might benefit from their work without putting in the same effort.

In response to these concerns, Threads clarified that users can disable media reuse via the app’s settings. Additionally, quote post controls allow creators to decide who can reshare the media they post.
